Living Through Thread and Fantasy: How Fashion Inspires My Art Dolls

Fashion has always been more than clothing to me — it’s storytelling in fabric form. Every texture, color, and layer feels like a doorway into a world I can step into, and through my art dolls, I get to actually live there. My dolls are my muses, my alter egos, and sometimes, the reflections of worlds that don’t exist yet — except in the stitches of their dresses and the sculpted twist of their hair.

My own style has always leaned toward the maximalist and the magical — a fairytale of upcycled fabrics, eccentric silhouettes, and vintage treasures given new life. I believe beauty thrives in the unexpected: the shimmer of a repurposed ribbon, the contrast of bold prints, or the elegance of something once forgotten. When I create a doll, I bring that same sense of freedom and abundance into her wardrobe. Each one feels like a tiny fashion show pulled from an alternate dreamscape.

But for me, fashion doesn’t stop at the dress. The hairstyle — whether it’s a towering updo, wild curls, or delicate yarn braids — completes the character. It’s part of how she tells her story. A doll with a windswept tangle might live in a seaside fantasy, while one with sleek, sculptural locks could be from a neon dream world. Every detail matters because I want my dolls to feel like they’ve lived entire lives before finding their way to my studio.

Creating these one-of-a-kind dolls feels like stepping through a mirror. I dress them in the outfits I wish I could wear every day — fearless, imaginative, and unapologetically too much. Through them, I explore every facet of my own identity as an artist and fashion lover.

Each doll is a tiny, stitched universe — a reminder that art and fashion are not separate worlds, but threads of the same beautiful story.
