Hi, I’m Valerie and this is My Stitchin
Dolliverse.

 I’ve been hand-sewing since childhood, making
doll clothes long before I knew what fashion design even was. Art has always
been part of me, a constant thread running through every chapter of my life.
Today, I create cloth dolls not just as art pieces, but as a powerful outlet: a
way to process, to escape, and to tell stories that matter.

Before launching my doll art business, I
worked in professional theatre in Seattle, contributing to major productions
including Shrek the Musical and Catch Me If You Can, and
collaborating with design legends like Bob Mackie (yes, that Bob Mackie, known
for Cher’s Oscar dress and much more). Theatre taught me the magic of
storytelling through costume and character. That sense of storytelling now
lives in every doll I make. 

I also worked with the Museum of Pop Culture
(MoPOP) and the Sci-Fi Museum in Seattle, crafting display mannequins for
historical costumes.

So, in theatre, I made real clothes for
imagined people. In museums, I made imagined people for real clothes.

My work is about connection between fabric and
form, art and emotion, maker and collector. Every doll is a small world,
stitched with care and filled with story.

I love to share what I’ve learned and teach
others the joy of sewing. Through my doll fashion sewing kits and
behind-the-scenes tips on social media and YouTube, I help beginners and fellow
creatives discover the satisfaction of stitching something by hand, just like I
did when I was young.

 As a full-time caregiver to four incredible
disabled children, I understand that life can be intense. Doll-making gives me
space to breathe and express myself. Each doll I create is a reflection of my
journey. Some are joyful, some carry heaviness, and many are inspired by my own
experience with neurodiversity. I sculpt with fabric, building characters that
carry emotion, resilience, and often a narrative of their own.
